The Namugongo Martyrs Shrine is one of the most important religious and historical sites in Uganda and a powerful symbol of faith and courage.
Built in honor of the 22 Ugandan Christian converts who were martyred in 1886 on the orders of King Mwanga II, the shrine today attracts pilgrims from around the world, especially during the annual Martyrs Day celebrations on June 3rd.
